I've seen a few gadgets on Amazon lately that say you can make your own coffee pods?

What sort of coffee pods can you make yourself? And what coffee pod brewers can I use these homemade coffee pods in?

And most importantly, are they any good?

One of the most versatile coffee pod makers on the market today would be the My Cafe by Bunn coffee makers. You can brew a huge variety of either pre-made paper coffee pods, or make your own.

The coffee pods with the hard shells, like Keurig K-cups, or Tassimo T-Discs can be used only in their specific coffee makers.
