What is a Coffee Pod?

With such a huge range of single cup coffee makers out there now, more and more people are asking - "What is a coffee pod?"

It seems many of the single serve coffee brewer companies are re-naming their particular type of coffee pods. Keurig Coffee Makers for example created the K Cups especially for their line of single cup coffee machines. Senseo have a huge range of Senseo Coffee Pods that can be used in their coffee makers. And Nespresso have called thier's 'Nespresso Coffee Capsules'.

To answer the basic question though of what a coffee pod is - A coffee pod is a pre-packaged amount of ground coffee, wrapped in it's own little filter. There are many different styles, shapes and sizes out there. And a bunch of on-line shops where you can buy these coffee pods in bulk to save money.

But before you head down that road it is REALLY important that you understand what the different types of coffee pods are, and more importantly - which coffee pods go in which coffee pod makers.

There are also more and more 'make your own coffee pod' makers on the market. The idea behind this is three-fold I guess.

Firstly, you can save money by making your own.

Secondly, you can put whatever coffee brand you like in your coffee pods. Or even use tea if you prefer.

And thirdly, making your own coffee pods really reduces the environmental impact of this 'throw away' society.
